Other than the Steam Roller, it is far
e to say that the Traction Engine is most iconic of steam powered vehicles to be found here at South Cerney. There surely cannot be many people who have not seen or at least know what a Traction Engine is upon seeing one.
It is almost certain that if you live in the Cirencester area of Gloucestershire, you will have passed a Traction Engine of some description heading to this very event. As with the other types of steamer featured amongst our 100 plus engines, many of these types of engine 'road' to and from the event under their own steam - a truly remarkable sight for all.
On arrival at South Cerney you will be confronted with a varied display of these engines, who as well as being referred to as Traction Engines are often called Agricultural Engines, or General Purpose Engines. Both names possibly far better describe them than that of the Traction Engine.
Whilst at the show, we allow you our visitor to see for yourselves the diverse uses of these engines, be it on haulage duty in the play pen, part of the threshing display or as the main workhorse within the Timber Arena, where we are not afraid to really put these wonderful machines to work. Away from the hustle and bustle of the various arenas, you can also get up close and feel the sheer scale of these iconic work horses.
Various makes, models and designs are presented for you to look at, observe, compare and enjoy at your leisure. Drawn from all over the UK, our Traction Engine display is one of the best in the land and the depth and diversity of the machines on display is quite hard to beat.
Then again, you'll be able to make your own mind up when you visit the steam section here at South Cerney in August.
