FRI 6th, SAT 7th & SUN 8th AUGUST 2010 COTSWOLD AIRPORT : KEMBLE : GL7 6BQ

VINTAGE FUN FAIR

Kemble has always prided itself on the fact that it is very much a working event. We try whenever possible to recreate the sights, the sounds, the smells and capture the atmosphere of a bygone era of British life.

One section in which this is richly highlighted is the traditional fairground which features various vintage rides that have captured the imagination of young and old for many many years.

Ride the waltzer, board the Steam Yaghts, drive the dodgems and take your chances on the side stalls just as your ancestors would have done. Take a trip to the top of the wooden Slip and marvel at the expanse of the Kemble show, before taking a leisurely ride on the steam driven Gallopers, an iconic ride in its own right.

Marvel at the brightly coloured vintage lorries and packing trucks, living vans, caravans and of course steam engines that have always been part of any traditional fairground backdrop (see below).

The Kemble fair is uncluttered and not overbearing providing space for the entire family to relax in and enjoy as part of their day on the airfield.

  CHILDRENS ENTERTAINMENT

The Showground can be a magical place for children with so much going on all over the place which should keep them enthralled for hours. The sights and sounds are so much better than computer games because here the children can see, touch and even smell the exhibits!!.

The Vintage Fun Fair is always a big attraction to children of all ages ( and grown up children too!!) with the noise and lights of fairs as they used to be. The animal arena is another great favourite with our younger visitors where they can marvel at the antics performed by all sorts of creatures many of which they probably have never seen before and all of them shown with great affection by their owners.

The trade stand area usually has a number of traders and charities which attract our younger visitors with such things as face painting on offer and of course we must not forget a visit to the icecream van whatever the weather.

The show is wonderful fun, but also educational, for children with sights and sounds to entrall and entertain them, but parents, please remember there is much movement of vehicles during the event and much working machinery some of which have exposed parts, so please ensure that the children take care.

FAIRGROUND TRANSPORT

To compliment the Fairground, both our Commercial Vehicle and Steam Section Leaders put on a fantastic display of Fairground Transport Living Vans, and of course Fairground Organs.  Ranging from the horse drawn era, through steam and onto internal combustion, this section of the event is the highlight for many an enthusiast who marvel at the assembled collection.
