VINTAGE AIRCRAFT
STOP PRESS NEWS!!!!!!! SVTEC are proud to announce that the Red Arrows (Link) hope to do a flyby over the Rally on Saturday afternoon. More details will be posted as they become available.
IT'S BACK !!!!
Yes - the North American T28 (Link) will be appearing again after a gap of a couple of years when it suffered some technical problems. Hear again the thunderous roar of a 1000 horse radial engine starting up only a few feet away from you - but remember to hold on to your hat!! Not only that but you could also fly in this magnificent warplane.
How? The owner kindly offers a flight on the Saturday and Sunday of the Rally which the Cobalt Appeal (one of our supported charities) raffles. So buy lots of raffle tickets to support this worthwhile charity and try and win a flight of a lifetime - this is the only event where you can do this.
Also back again this year is the amazing Antonov AN2 (Link) - the worlds biggest single engined biplane and one of the slowest. Some aircraft become impressive with speed and performance but not the AN2!! The slow speeds it is capable of are truly incredible and makes you wonder why it does not fall out of the sky and if you ask the crew why it doesn't they will gladly tell you. This iconic machine will be open to the public to examine and marvel at.
The Landsdown Model Flying Club (Link) from Bath will be displaying a range of their Large Scale Model Aircraft in the Aircraft Display Area. Do not, however, expect little Airfix type models - these are large scale radio controlled aircraft some of which can be up to half the size of the original machines. In fact we have been promised a half scale Piper Cub which should make an interesting comparison to the full scale original which should also be attending. Could there be a photo opportunity coming on?
2010 is the One hundredth anniversary of the Bristol Aircraft Company and a display to commemorate this will be put on by Bristol Aero Collection Museum (Link) based here at the airfield. The Museum (small entrance fee) will also be open to visitors over the rally weekend and a free vintage bus service will be running between the Rally and the Museum hanger.
In addition to specific Rally participants, Cotswold Airport (Link) (the renamed Kemble Airfield) is a busy generalaviation field with many vintage and modern operators who will be coming and going during the weekend which all adds to the excitement of the Rally.
If you are an aircraft owner (classic or modern) feel free to fly in and visit us. Just call the Tower and ask to be parked at the Rally side of the Airfield where our marshallers will position you and offer you free entry to the event. What could be better for a day out!!
Should you want further information or clarification about flying in please call Keith Bradley on 01453 757502.
