VINTAGE BUSES & COACHES
Once again the Bus & Coach Section is going from strength to strength. From humble beginnings a few years ago, this section has become a vintage vehicle rally in it's own right.
Once again this year we are expecting buses and coaches covering half a century of motoring which have operated as far away as China and as close as this actual airfield.
We are hoping for a return of a selection of the classic Bedford OB, the small coach which appeared in huge numbers in the late 40's/early 50's. How many of you remember a trip to the seaside on one of these amazing vehicles in the days before the motorway?
Also booked in is a regular visitor in the shape of a Bristol built double-decker once operated by Lincolnshire Road Car. This bus has attended every Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza and the owner has said that if he could only attend one event a year it would be here - high praise indeed! The appearance of this bus at any rally is remarkable when you consider that a member of the public produced an old newspaper cutting at the 2009 show showing this vehicle on its side after it overturned following an accident complete with a full load of schoolchildren. Thankfully they were all uninjured - as apparently was the bus because after repairs it was returned to service!
Another regular is a Bristol built single-decker which was delivered new to Bristol Omnibus at Cirencester. This bus would most certainly have operated on the airfield at Kemble when it was an RAF base.
