CONFIRMED STEAM WAGONS

FODEN : Works No. 3510 : Built 1913 : Reg. M 4673 : 'The Icklingham Flyer' (Link)

Its pretty rare these days to find an engine in it's original livery, but this 1913 Foden still carries the same paint as it did when delivered new to J.Lawton of Machester where it spent the first part of it life working for the Haulage Company.

In 1926 the Foden was purchased by none other than Henry Ford, who took it to America to display in his Museum (Link) at Dearborn. It returned to the UK in 1980 and is now a regular visitor to Kemble. Don't get stuck behind this particular engine however. On the flat it has a good turn of speed, but on hills it has been known to be overtaken by bicycles!

Owned by: Duncan Marston, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

FODEN : Works No. 12116 : Built 1925 : Reg. TU 1215 : 'Enterprise' (Link)

New to W.J.King of Bishops Lydeard, Taunton and used for road making and quarry work. This engine along with eight others was laid up in the early 1930's and slowly became derelict. In 988 there was an auction and 'Enterprise' was sold with 8 other Wagons. Most of the engines at the infamous sale have been fully restored, but there is still one that remains in the same condition as it was sold.

Owned by: Martin & Steve White, Totton, Southampton.

SENTINEL : Super Steam Waggon : No. 8393 : Built 1930 : Reg DX 9048 : 'Sultan'  (Link)

Owned by: HMS Sultan. Gosport, Hampshire.

SENTINEL : S4 Steam Waggon: No. 9032 : Built 1934 : Reg. US 5430 (Link)

This waggon was supplied new to Cowlairs Co-Op as one of a pair in 1934. It was used on general deliveries of coke and coal, in the Springburn district of Glasgow. The engine finished its working life with Allcounties Contracting Services in County Durham in 1956. It then entered into preservation.

Purchased by current owner in 1966, the engine was completely rebuilt and rallied until 1986 when it was mysteriously, partially destroyed in a fire. It was restored again and painted in its original livery and has been rallied by the Goold family ever since.

Owned by: Vince Goold & Family, Camerton, Bath.

SENTINEL : S4 Waggon : No. 9293 : Built 1937 : Reg. UJ 9497 (Link)

This was one of the last Sentinel Steam Waggons to be built of the S-Type for general sale in the UK. Built in 1937 it remained a company demostrator and not sold until late 1938 to one of Sentinel's loyal customers, Castle Firebrick Co Ltd in Flintshire. It worked for this company all it's commercial life in the livery presented today, hauling with a trailer 4500 bricks daily, mainly to Liverpool Docks. In 1956 the waggon entered preservation and has been overhauled 3 times, the last time in 2005/6.

Owned by: Stuart Gray, Hitchin Hertfordshire.
