Although classic Emergency Vehicles have featured at the Gloucestershire Steam Extravaganza previously, 2012 will see the formation of the specific Emergency Vehicle section here at South Cerney.
As with anything new, its difficult to really say what to expect but if the enthusiasm and interest displayed thus far is anything to go by, the endeavour will be a huge success.
The aim is to gather a selection of ex Emergency Vehicles together and present a display that encompasses all of the three main services of Fire, Police and Ambulance plus some of the other emergency services like the RNLI, Coastguard and such like. The section will not only be static either, as we are utilising several of the Fire appliances to carry water around the site and service some of the more remote Steam Engines.
The importance of having these vehicles on site can't be emphasised either, as in 2011 several of the Fire Engines in the Commercial Vehicle section were called upon to put out a small grass fire in the Steam Play Pen ! This in itself created a fascinating and unique display, although we do not intend to repeat it in 2012!
Keep your eyes and ears open for those blues and two's, visit the section and admire the vehicles that were fundamentally designed to save lives in years gone by.
