STEAM DISPLAYS

Over the years we have developed the Steam Section to include as much activity and movement of the engines on display as possible. As engine owners and enthusiasts we feel it is important for our visitors to be able to watch the exhibits do as much as possible the jobs they were intended to do, and not become the stuffed and mounted relics you find at other events.

Obviously safety is paramount at all times, so some activities are not feasable but we endvour to bring you as many demonstrations and activities as is possible, which all go towards bringing this part of the event to life.

THE MAIN STEAM ARENA

The Main Steam Arena, is without doubt the centre point of the entire show. Here you can see Steam Engines of every size, make, type and descipsion being out through their paces. Free movement is encouraged up and down the runway. Drivers are asked to run the engines in the same way that they would on the open road. This creates a unique and highly entertaining display for our visitors. Here you can see first hand the skills involved with driving an engine, whitness the sheer power of these machines and from time to time be privy to some of the challenges laid down between drivers and crew.

Our commentator for The Main Steam Arena is John Reeves, who has a wealth of knowlage about the engines present at the event and the owners and drivers operating them. There is ongoing banter between everyone which will leave you either shaking your head in disbelief or rolling around the floor with laughter.

THE  TIMBER  ARENA

Another popular part of the show is, the Timber Arena. Here we will demonstrate not only how steam power was used to cut timber in days gone by, but also how it was used to load, unload, and haul timber. Our expert display team will happily explain to you what they are doing and why. We will deviler an unprocessed tree trunk to the area giving you the chance to see how it is loaded onto the saw bench, prepared for cutting, then processed into usuable timber.

The Timber Arena is a facinating display, which shows both steam power and other vintage vehicles working in harmony with a skilled team of experts in full control throughout.

HOLE LOAD OF TROUBLE

With education being so high on our list of priorities within the section, you may be wondering why the wording of this part of the show is incorrect. Well, if your looking for the 'W' in Hole, the answer is simple. We dropped it down one!

Hole Load Of Trouble, is a display that can be seen at many events throughout the year (link) but at Kemble it is all brought together with other displays of its kind creating a large area that shows off Living Vans (link) ,tools, machines, signs etc associated with Road Making and  more specically Steam Rollers.

Although one of the more static displays within the section, you will find the display a fascinating insight into how things used to be done. You can pear inside the Living Vans, get up close to the engines and really get a feel of how a Steam Roller driver and his family used to live.

ROAD ROLLER ASSOCIATION

As in previous years we welcome back to the 2010 event, the Road Roller Association (Link) who will be present in our Steam Marquee, with their sales and information stand. The stand is usually packed with much of interest for you to digest. There will of course be a number of members of the RRA present who will be only to happy to answer questions and induct you into the world of Road Rollers.
